HYLAN BOOKER
spent the years from 1995 to 2001 in South. Florida as a private
couturier, designing custom made one-offs for women of high life
style and fashion sense: in South Beach, Boca Raton, Naples and
Palm Beach. His designs were seen in Neiman Marcus, Martha’s
and Saks 5th Avenue, but principally in as his own atelier on Brickell
Avenue where women were able to enjoy his personal consultation
and originality. Family and friends finally won their call for him
to move to Los Angeles in 2001 where he has continued to create
custom clothes for a key clientele that are less formal and far
more suited to the California life style: his gorgeous jackets brought
couture to jeans magnificently, as suited the Hollywood mindset.
Ready to Wear has
been an ongoing part of Hylan’s American life: in New York
(head Designer for a division of Anne Klein); head designer for
Madison Avenue’s Searl;and for 4 years in West Los Angles
as head designer for French Rags, a knit wear company that enjoyed
that he introduced to knits a couture sensibility that brought shape,
detail and fashion into a marvelous sweater company. He used the
mezzanine in their factory as his atelier to continue creating custom
designs for private clients. French Rags closed its doors when its
founder, Brenda French, moved to Santa Fe. Private design and manufacturing
on your own can be a lonely business, so Hylan Bookier is looking
to bring his extraordinary skills and experience to an apparel company
that has an appetite to tap into a new market segment with the guidance
of an award winning designer.
